How many pages should you proofread per hour?

So in this article, we look at how many pages, you should be able to proofread in one hour as a freelance proofreader. So, the first thing to note is that generally in the industry, especially working for academic proofreading companies, people, look at the how long it takes you to read a thousand words. You should be able to do between 1,500 and 2,000 words per hour to work for most academic proofreading companies, that’s what they expect.
 

Converting words per hour to pages per hour 

So, if you translate that to pages, most pages are Arial, font size 12, and double-spaced, which means they have about 250-300 words.
 
That means that 1,000 words is four pages, and 2,000 is eight pages. So if academic proofreading companies require that you read between 1,500-2,000 words per hour, you need to be doing about six to eight pages per hour, which are double-spaced in size 12 font. However, if the spacing and font are different, then this will change. But that is the general guideline to work from!
